Utah State rallies, blows late lead, falls to Kansas City in Brooks’ coaching debut | Sports

LOGAN – The Wes Brooks era of Utah State women’s basketball began in defeat, showcasing the mountain the former Ohio State and Michigan assistant coach and his youthful cast of players have to climb. Kansas City, a team the Aggies defeated last season on the road 62-60 for the first of what was only five wins in the 2023-24 campaign, exacted revenge by walking out of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum with a 80-77 win. Twice the Aggies held seven-point leads in the fourth quarter, 69-62 and 76-69, but each time the Roos responded with a run of their own. First a 7-0 run to tie the game 69-all, then an 11-1 run to finish the game and claim victory. “I thought we played hard tonight. George, Collins lead the Jazz to 1st win, 135-126 over the Bulls | Sports

CHICAGO (AP) — Keyonte George had 33 points and nine assists, John Collins added 28 points and 13 rebounds and the Utah Jazz won for the first time this season, beating the Chicago Bulls 135-126 on Monday night. The injury-depleted Jazz (1-6) entered as the NBA’s worst team offensively, averaging 99.8 points on 39.1 % percent shooting. Against Chicago, the Jazz shot 53.9% from the floor and were 45.7% from 3-pointer range at 16 of 35. Collin Sexton added 24 points for Utah, and Walker Kessler had 12 points and 15 rebounds. Chicago’s Coby White came on in the second half to score 28 points, tying it twice late in the third quarter. But the Bulls, playing without injured leading scorer Zach LaVine, were unable to take the lead after falling behind by 15 points. Aggies well represented on All-Mountain West soccer teams | Sports

LOGAN, Utah – After a historic and record-setting regular season, Utah State soccer has earned a program record number of all-Mountain West accolades, as announced by the league Monday afternoon.  Seven Utah State players earned spots on the league’s first and second teams, while senior defender Kaitlyn Richins was named the MW Defensive Player of the Year, graduate goalkeeper Cora Brendle was named the MW Newcomer of the Year and head coach Manny Martins, for the second-straight season, was named the MW Coach of the Year. Additionally, USU placed four players on the league’s all-newcomer team.  Mountain West Coach of the Year – Manny Martins Martins has led the Utah State program to new heights to earn his second-straight Mountain West Coach of the Year honor. This year, USU has set program records for wins (16), goals (58), assists (59), points (175), shutouts (13) and shots on goal (176), while ranking second all-time in goals allowed average (0.55).
