Anderson Julio, Philip Quinton help Real Salt Lake end skid with 2-0 victory over Revolution | Multimedia

SANDY, Utah (AP) — Anderson Julio scored during first-half stoppage time, defender Philip Quinton added a second-half goal and Real Salt Lake ended a four-match winless streak with a 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night. Real Salt Lake (13-6-8) had gone 0-3-1 since a 15-match unbeaten run. New England (8-15-2), which was making its first trip to Utah since 2018, was on the losing end of two of Real Salt Lake’s biggest victories at home — a 6-0 romp in 2009 and a 5-0 rout the following season. Julio scored unassisted three minutes into stoppage time to give Real Salt Lake a 1-0 lead this time around. Quinton scored in the 56th minute for a two-goal lead. It was Quinton’s second career goal and his first in eight starts and 12 appearances since coming over from the Columbus Crew. Braian Ojeda picked up his fourth assist of the season. Gavin Beavers finished with two saves to earn his third clean sheet in his eighth start in goal for Real Salt Lake. Aljaz Ivacic saved eight shots for the Revolution. Real Salt Lake played without Cristian “Chicho” Arango, who injured his hamstring in a 2-0 home loss

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah  — In its second game of the weekend, Utah State fell short to in-state rival Utah 3-1 (31-29, 15-25, 23-25, 12-25) on Saturday evening at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.   Set One The Aggies built a 10-5 advantage to start the contest and sustained an advantage of four points or more until the Utes went on a 5-0 scoring run late in the set to tie things at 21 a piece. Both sides battled back-and-forth, forcing extra points before the Aggies claimed the set, 31-29,  on a 3-0 scoring run behind a kill from freshman Andrea Simovski and two blocks by Simovski and graduate Kelsey Watson.     Set Two After the Aggies claimed the first point of the set, the home-side Utes launched a 4-0 scoring run, securing a lead they would never surrender. Freshman Jagoda Bialek delivered a service ace to cap a 3-0 Aggie scoring run to cut Utah’s advantage to 6-5 before the Utes would again take over, eventually winning the set 25-15.   Set Three The Utes started set three by establishing a 5-2 lead early in the set. No. 19 Utah State soccer downs No. 16 BYU to remain perfect | Sports

PROVO, Utah – No. 19 Utah State soccer (5-0, 0-0 MW) earned a top-25 win to remain perfect on the year Saturday night, taking down No. 16 BYU at South Field in Provo. This is the third win over a ranked opponent in program history, and USU’s third win over BYU in the past four years.  It didn’t take long for the Aggies to get on the board, striking first with a right-footed laser from senior forward Bizzy Arevalo in the seventh minute, after a throw-in led to a well-placed pass from junior forward Tess Werts. The lead didn’t last for long, however, as the Cougars countered in the 10th minute on a free kick from just outside of the box into the top right corner of the net. This was the first goal USU has allowed all season.  USU out-shot BYU 7-3 in the first half, but didn’t retake the lead until the 57th minute. Graduate midfielder Alex Day sent a perfectly-placed ball nearly the length of the field to the feet of junior midfielder Kaylie Chambers, who crossed to Werts for the game winner.  SCORING SUMMARY 6:36 –    Bizzy Arevalo (USU) Assist: Tess Werts 9:37 –    Mackenzee

Injuries, slow start hamper but don’t halt Utah State in 36-14 win over Robert Morris | Sports

LOGAN – On the final play of the second quarter of Utah State’s season opener against Robert Morris, USU quarterback Bryson Barnes, filling in for an injured Spencer Petras, threw a long pass intended for Colby Bowman. The Aggies were hoping to get a quick score before halftime (the snap to Barnes came with less than 30 seconds before the break). Instead, Robert Morris cornerback Rob Carter Jr. leapt into the air and reeled in a catch-of-the-year-candidate-interception. The Colonials drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the ensuing, and rather justified, celebration of the insane catch. And the lost yardage only moved the spot from which RMU quarterback would take a knee from so the Colonials could take their 14-10 lead into the locker room. Not the greatest start in the world for a USU team favored to win by 30-plus points in its home/season opener for 2024. Although the Aggies would eventually find a way to pull away and win 36-14 despite two major injuries and the overall slow start. “That game, in a way, summed up our last 60 days,” USU interim head coach Nate Dreiling said. “We took some blows, adversity hit, and it finished with a group
