Utah State soccer shuts out Utah to improve to 4-0 | Sports

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah State soccer (4-0, 0-0 MW) remained perfect on the season with a 2-0 victory over Utah Wednesday evening at Ute Field, improving to 4-0 for the second time in program history. The Aggies have now out-scored opponents by a combined 11-0 this season.  After a scoreless first half in which the Aggies limited Utah to just a single shot, Utah State got on the board in the 58th minute when a throw-in to senior forward Bizzy Arevlo turned into a well-placed pass in the middle of the box for sophomore midfielder Summer Diamond, who delivered a right-footer into the back of the net.  Just five minutes later, Utah State tacked on another when graduate defender Kylie Olsen found graduate midfielder Alex Day, who ricocheted a shot off the woodwork and into the net to make it 2-0. SCORING SUMMARY 57:54 – Summer Diamond (USU) Assist: Bizzy Arevalo 62:47 – Alex Day (USU)                 Assist: Kylie Olsen HEAD COACH MANNY MARTINS ON THE PERFORMANCE “We’re ranked for the first time and I knew that we were going to have to ride out the fact that there’s something new in the environment. Utah State Football Opponent Preview Vol. 9 – Washington State | Sports

Courtesy of a scheduling agreement between the Mountain West and the remains of the Pac-12, Utah State has been handed a matchup against Washington State. It’s kind of a conference game in that it was assigned by the Mountain West, but it will not count toward the conference standings and is essentially a non-conference game. It’ll be a stark reminder of the realties of conference realignment and perhaps a glimpse into the future with an opponent who may become a conference rival. This is the ninth installment in a series of 12 opponent previews that will go in-depth on each of the Aggies foes for the 2024 football season. Aggies ranked 19th in latest Top 25 women’s soccer poll | Sports

For the first time in program history, Utah State soccer is a ranked team. The latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll placed the Aggies 19th in the country. This ranking comes off the back of an incredibly strong 3-0 start to the 2024 season. USU has not yet allowed a goal this year and has scored nine goals itself in wins over Pepperdine (4-0), Hawaii (3-0) and Texas Tech (2-0). The wins over Pepperdine and Texas Tech were particularly impressive given both squads were champions of their respective conferences (WCC and Big 12) along with being NCAA Tournament teams. Utah State’s defense is obviously a strong point, being one of just 12 teams to play multiple game so far and not give up a single goal, but it’s the offense where the team seems to be making the most strides so far. The Aggies were a very solid 42nd in goals against average in 2023 (and first in the Mountain West at just 0.78 per game) but way down at 197th in goals scored (1.22 per game). Through three games, Utah State is averaging an even 3.0 goals per game, good for 20th in the country, with multiple goals
