Hadli Barrera, Eli Wheatley named CVMG Players of the Week for Aug. 19-24 | Sports
LOGAN — Mountain Crest girls soccer forward Hadli Barrera and Green Canyon football defensive lineman Eli Wheatley dominated their competition this week and were both honored as this week’s Cache Valley Media Group Girls and Boys Players of the Week. Barrera was very nearly a one-woman offense for Mountain Crest last week, scoring five of the Mustangs’ six overall goals in a pair of victories. She recorded a hat trick in a tightly-fought 3-2 win over Ridgeline and then added a brace in the Mustangs’ 3-0 win against Sky View. Those two dominant performances powered a 2-0 start to region play and has Mountain Crest at a 5-1 overall record on the season. Wheatley is the second Green Canyon athlete in as many weeks to be named Player of the Week (joining Katelyn Jensen of GC girls soccer). He led the Wolves’ defense to a second straight shutout as GC downed Stansbury 24-0. Wheatley led Green Canyon in tackles (nine) and sacks (two) to keep Stansbury from scoring a single point and keeping the Wolves undefeated two weeks into the season.
