Coming in at number eight in the Cache Valley Media Group’s Top 25 Aggies of 2024 is junior cornerback Avante Dickerson.
Dickerson transferred to Utah State from Oregon prior to the 2023 season. Coming out of high school he was a four-star recruit and according to ESPN was the top-rated player from Nebraska and second-highest rated cornerback in the nation. He played in 12 games across two seasons with the Ducks.
At USU, Dickerson quickly earned a spot in the rotation, ultimately starting seven games in 11 overall appearances in 2023. He finished the year with 17 tackles and was tied for second on the Aggies in passes defended with six. According to Pro Football Focus player grading, quarterbacks completed only 38.7 percent of passes when throwing to receivers guarded by Dickerson. That percentage was the second-best in the Mountain West (minimum of 125 coverage snaps). Dickerson is expected to be the top cornerback for the Aggies this season and a dark horse for one of the better coverage CBs in the conference.
The Top 25 Aggies is based on a vote from members of Utah State media including Jason Walker, Eric Frandsen, Craig Hislop and Ajay Salvesen. A public fan poll was also used with its results being used as a fifth ballot. The full list of 25 players will be revealed one at a time each weekday on the Full Court Press (106.9 FM, 1390 AM) at 4:25 p.m. from July 22 until August 26.
