Utah State volleyball picked to finish 2nd in 2024 MW preseason poll | Sports

LOGAN – The reigning champions of Mountain West volleyball, Utah State, were picked to finish second in the 2024 preseason poll which is voted on by the 11 head coaches of the teams in the conference. Two Aggies were also named to the preseason All-Conference team.

Colorado State was named the preseason favorite, garnering eight first-place votes to Utah State’s two (UNLV received the one other first-place vote). Behind the Aggies in second are Boise State in third, Fresno State in fourth and UNLV rounding out the top five.

Utah State did lose three all-conference players from last year’s team. Tatum Stall and Shelby Capllonch both graduated and freshman Kambree Rodriguez, an honorable mention All-MW selection, transferred. But one 2023 All-MW Aggie, Adna Mehmedovic, is returning to the team. USU also added an All-MW player via the transfer portal, Tierney Barlow, who played at Wyoming last year. Both Mehmedovic and Barlow were named to the 2024 preseason All-Conference team.

The Aggies won the regular season Mountain West title in 2023 — which made for three straight years where USU has won either the regular season title or conference tournament — and also earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. All of that recent success has been under Rob Neilson, who enters his fifth year with the Aggies and has a 73-37 overall record.
