Utah State announces football assistant coach hirings and promotions | Sports
LOGAN — Utah State officially announced a series of hirings and promotions on the football staff, finalizing all coordinator and position coach roles for the upcoming 2024 season, some of which were opened by the departure of head coach Blake Anderson earlier this month. Three of the moves are new hires, which were previously reported by ESPN. The Aggies will be bringing in Troy Morrell as the new associate head coach and senior offensive analyst, Dave Weimers as senior defensive analyst and Rachel Phillips as chief of staff. Morrell made his name in the junior college ranks as the head coach of Butler Community College His team won three JuCo titles championships during his tenure which also included two undefeated seasons and an overall record of 154-22. Wiemers has held numerous coaching positions since 1992, including coordinator positions at Saginaw Valley (1994-98), Tarleton State (2007), Pittsburgh State (2008-19) and Emporia State (1999-2000). From 2001-06 he was the head coach at Emporia State, going 35-32 in that tenure. Wiemers was most recently the offensive coordinator at Carthage High School (since 2021). In addition to these hirings, several current assistant coaches will receive promotions to fill small holes in the staff. Kyle Cefalo, who
