A new day brings another player revealed on the Cache Valley Media Group Top 25 Aggies of 2024. Today’s spotlight player is the number 20 ranked Utah State football player according to the ballots — junior running back Robert Briggs.
Briggs leapt onto the scene in 2022 by setting a record for most rushing yards by a true freshman in his debut, doing so by running for 85 yards and a touchdown against UConn on Aug. 27, 2022. He also added 16 receiving yards to give him more than 100 scrimmage yards in his first-ever college outing.
After rushing for a total of 353 yards for his whole freshman season, Briggs increased his production in nearly every way for his sophomore year in 2023. He carried the ball 80 times for 420 yards and two touchdowns. He also served as the secondary kick returner and returned one kickoff for 50 yards.
According to Sports Reference, Briggs’ 773 career rushing yards are third-most by any Aggie running back through their freshman and sophomore seasons, behind only Robert Turbin and Lajuan Hunt.
The Top 25 Aggies is based on a vote from members of Utah State media including Jason Walker, Eric Frandsen, Craig Hislop and Ajay Salvesen. A public fan poll was also used with its results being used as a fifth ballot. The full list of 25 players will be revealed one at a time each weekday on the Full Court Press (106.9 FM, 1390 AM) at 4:25 p.m. from July 22 until August 26.
