LOGAN, Utah – Utah State finished the 2023-24 academic year second in the Mountain West with a total of 191 scholar-athlete honors as 1,510 accolades were awarded by the league office on Wednesday. In all, a total of 25 Aggies maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the academic year.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better.
Utah State led the MW with 50 scholar-athlete accolades from women’s track & field, 27 from men’s track & field, 23 from women’s cross country, 10 from men’s cross country and six from the men’s basketball team. USU student-athletes were third in the league in gymnastics with 11 scholar-athletes, tied for third in soccer (19), tied for fourth in volleyball (7) and sixth in football (16). Softball (9), women’s basketball (5), women’s tennis (4), golf (3) and men’s tennis (1) rounded out USU’s honors.
Utah State’s 191 scholar-athletes were the second-most in the MW behind New Mexico’s 197. Colorado State was third with 150 scholar-athletes, followed by Boise State (147), Fresno State (142), UNLV (129), Nevada (128), San José State (128), Wyoming (128), San Diego State (75) and Air Force (65). MW affiliate schools Colorado College (soccer) and Hawai’i (football) rounded out the list with 20 and 10 scholar-athletes, respectively.
