Today was the day to announce Andre Seldon’s place on Cache Valley Media Group’s Top 25 Aggies of 2024. However, Andre tragically passed away this past Saturday at the age of 22. At the time of his death, ballots for the Top 25 Aggies had already been submitted and tallied. But rather than remove him from the list, we felt it best to honor his memory in at least one small way by noting his placement on this list and status as one of the impact players for USU.
Seldon had transferred to Utah State after two seasons at New Mexico State, with two years spent at Michigan before that. His career accomplishments to that point were notable, with 97 career tackles, 4.5 TFLs and two interceptions (with one of those being a pick-six) while becoming a leader of New Mexico State’s defense. Seldon transferred to Utah State, following his defensive coordinator from NMSU, Nate Dreiling, to Logan.
Instead of citing his potential on the football field, it’s best to leave a description of Seldon to some of his coaches and teammates who knew him best, many of whom shared their feelings on social media.
Cliff Odom (Seldon’s defensive backs coach at New Mexico State)
“Andre is a 1 of 1. He’s exactly what you wanted as a player. Tough, smart, competitive and a leader. As dynamic as he was on the field, he was more so off of it. Always had a smile and infectious energy in every interaction you had with him.”

Gabriel Iniguez (NMSU teammate who also transferred to USU this offseason)
“Was so excited to ball with you brother one more time. Great player, even better person you forever gone be loved.”

Jalen Ortiz (USU defensive backs coach)
“You are one of the best people I ever met. You lit up any room you walked into. People gravitated towards you and loved being around you.”
8 ball, Donut, Dre, Big Dre, the man of many nicknames. You are one of the best people I ever met. You lit up any room you walked into. People gravitated towards you and loved being around you. I pray for your family and loved ones. I love you Big Dre 🤍🕊️ https://t.co/tKoh0rmoFx

Nate Dreiling, (USU interim head coach, also Seldon’s defensive coordinator at NMSU)
“Not sure I ever had a conversation with Andre where I didn’t end up smiling. One of the best people I have ever been around. He meant so much to so many, and always made you feel better when you were around him. Such a bright light in this world with his smile. Love you bud.”

The Top 25 Aggies is based on a vote from members of Utah State media including Jason Walker, Eric Frandsen, Craig Hislop and Ajay Salvesen. A public fan poll was also used with its results being used as a fifth ballot. The full list of 25 players will be revealed one at a time each weekday on the Full Court Press (106.9 FM, 1390 AM) at 4:25 p.m. from July 22 until August 26.
