LOGAN — In a bombshell report, Utah State football head coach Blake Anderson was placed on administrative leave and is ‘not expected to return as coach’ according to ESPN college football senior writer, Pete Thamel.
A series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) from Thamel were sent out this morning, first noting that Anderson was being placed on administrative leave, later adding the reports of Anderson not returning and that first-year defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling has been named interim head coach.
Sources: Utah State has informed the football team that coach Blake Anderson is on administrative leave and unlikely to return. Defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling has been named interim coach.

Anderson led the Aggies to a 23-17 overall record in three seasons, including a bowl appearance each year and the program’s first-ever Mountain West championship in 2021.
Anderson and his wife recently welcomed a newborn son to their family. Some speculation may lead to this being related, but it is likely not given the nature of administrative leave vs paternity leave.
Utah State has not yet responded to a request for comment from Cache Valley Daily. This story will be updated when more details are reported or uncovered.
