Last season’s Utah State star forward Great Osobor is now officially a former Aggie. The Mountain West Newcomer of the Year and Player of the Year has officially committed to play for the University of Washington, following former USU head coach Danny Sprinkle to Seattle.
Osobor entered the transfer portal on April 3, beginning more than a month of travel across the country to visit several schools interested in securing his services for his one remaining season of eligibility. He was consistently ranked as one of the most valuable transfer targets in the country. The England-born forward took official visits to Kentucky, Texas Tech and Louisville, ending with a visit to Washington around May 9. Reports indicated Osobor was drawing seven-figure NIL offers from each of these institutions.
In the end, Osobor opted to stick with Sprinkle, creating a remarkable journey where the two will have spent time together at three different schools, including three different teams in three seasons.
Another wrinkle to Osobor’s decision is that his NIL earnings for this upcoming season are publicly reported to be at least $2 million, with the potential for around $2.2 million. It’s the highest known NIL salary in college basketball according to On3 and ESPN.
In his lone season with Utah State, Osobor averaged 17.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game, all of which led the Aggies. He helped lead USU to its first-ever outright regular season Mountain West title and the first win in the NCAA Tournament since 2001. He also became the second Aggie to win Mountain West Player of the Year.
