Dunn suspended 2 games, Smith banned a game by the NBA for their fight in Jazz-Rockets game – Cache Valley Daily

(AP Photo/Rick Bowmer) NEW YORK (AP) — Utah guard Kris Dunn was suspended two games and Houston’s Jabari Smith Jr. was banned a game Sunday by the NBA after their fight a night earlier. The two were away from the ball when they began grabbing and shoving each other Saturday with 11:55 remaining in the second quarter of the Rockets’ 147-119 victory in Houston. The NBA penalized Dunn for initiating the altercation and throwing a punch in giving him the lengthier punishment. Dunn will sit out a home game Monday against Dallas and Wednesday against San Antonio. Smith will miss Houston’s home game against Portland on Monday. And as it’s long been said “All good things must come to an end.” That’s the state of Utah State basketball after a 106-67 shellacking at the hands of the Midwest region’s top seed, Purdue, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. A truly dominant force the Aggies just couldn’t seem to handle. From a program in disarray last spring, to a Mountain West champion in March, these Aggies created a memorable season. “What our team did this year was historic,” USU head coach Danny Sprinkle said. “I don’t know if it’ll be done again at the Power Five, Power Six level. Utah State gymnastics finishes second at the inaugural Mountain West Championships – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State’s gymnastics team posted a season-high 196.500 to place second at the inaugural Mountain West Championships with Air Force, Boise State and San José State at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Saturday. The score ties for fifth highest home score in school history and is second-year head coach Kristin White’s career-high. It is also the second highest score in a conference championship meet in school history behind the 197.025 scored to win the 2022 Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference championship. Utah State won one event title during the championships as senior Brianna Brooks claimed the bars title with a season-high-tying 9.900, which ironically, was her first bars title of the season and the third of her career. Brooks also finished second in the all-around with a 39.300. Utah State began the meet with a season-high 49.275 on beam, followed by a 49.275 on floor, a 48.750 on vault and a 49.200 on bars. Boise State won the meet with a score of 196.550, San José State placed third with a score of 196.400 and Air Force placed last with a score of 195.450. “Man, what a nail-biter.
