SANDY, Utah (AP) — Cole Bassett scored a second-half goal and the Colorado Rapids collected their first win of the MLS season with a 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night. Djordje Mihailovic’s pass was flicked by a defender back to Bassett, who fired his shot from the center of the 18-yard box that beat diving goalkeeper Gavin Beavers. Rafael Navarro scored on a penalty kick for the Rapids (1-1-1) in the 43rd. Chukwuemeka Eneli scored in the 22nd minute for Real Salt Lake (1-2-1). Eneli scored on a left-footed shot from close range to the center of the goal. Andrés Gómez had the assist. RSL was without midfielder Pablo Ruiz, who suffered a knee injury in practice three days after the team beat LAFC 3-0 on a snowy field on March 2. Colorado had 11 shots, including six on goal. RSL had nine shots with four on goal. Colorado goalkeeper Zack Steffen made three saves. Beavers finished with four saves. The victory gives the Rapids the first win in the quest for this season’s Rocky Mountain Cup. The teams meet again on May 18 at Sandy and in Colorado on July 20. Free News Delivery by Email

Nikola Jokic played through a bruised right arm that kept him out of shootaround and Jamal Murray scored 37 points, helping the Nuggets bulldoze the Jazz 142-121 Saturday night. Jokic had 26 points, six rebounds and eight assists, and Michael Porter Jr. added 19 points for Denver, which inched within a half-game of Western Conferene leading Oklahoma City, which was idle Saturday night. The Nuggets, who were coming off a big win over Boston, led by as many as 39 points in the first half, which helped them withstand Utah’s third-quarter rally that cut the deficit to 14. The Jazz scored as many points in that third quarter as they did in the first half. Down 78-44 at the break, the Jazz outscored Denver 44-24. Keyonte George led Utah with 29 points and fueled the Jazz’s third-quarter surge that made it more respectable and

Utah State wins thriller over New Mexico, claims MW title outright – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – Darius Brown is no stranger to hitting huge shots. His late-game heroics are why Utah State entered Saturday evening’s game against New Mexico 8-0 in games decided by five points or less. Make that 9-0 for the Aggies in close games and another big-time shot on Brown’s resume. Over the final eight minutes of USU’s 87-85 win over the Lobos, both sides refused to back down, trading buckets as Utah State fought for the right to an outright Mountain West regular season title and New Mexico fought to play spoiler and perhaps add a crucial win to its shaky NCAA Tournament resume. It started with Brown hitting a pair of free throws on a one-and-one with 7:42 on the clock. That tipped the game from a 69-68 advantage to New Mexico to a 70-69 lead for the Aggies. Little would anyone realize, but that would be the last time the Lobos led in the game, though it hardly felt like it at times. Six times in those final seven minutes and change, New Mexico tied the game. Every big shot the Aggies hit, the Lobos found a response. Brown spins Jaelen House out of his shoes, drives the
