The Aggies knew they’ve been bowl bound for more than a week, but now the destination of that bowl has been announced.
Utah State will play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 23 at 1:30 p.m. against Georgia State. The Aggies have never faced Georgia State throughout its history, though head coach Blake Anderson coached against the Panthers six times while head coach at Arkansas State, going 5-1 in those matchups.
The news was first reported around noon on Sunday, first by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and later by others. The official announcement from bowl organizers and the schools involved came just after 1 p.m.

Since 2011, the Aggies have made it to a bowl game in all but two seasons (2016 and 2020). Utah State is 5-5 in the 10 bowl appearances in that span. All-time, Utah State has appeared in 15 bowl games with a 6-9 record in those games.
This will be the fifth appearance for the Aggies in the Potato Bowl, dating back to 1997, the inaugural year of the bowl (at the time it was called the Humanitarian Bowl). Utah State also played in the bowl in 2011, 2012 and 2015. USU is 1-3 in those four games, the lone win coming in 2012.
This article will be updated with comments from Blake Anderson following an afternoon press conference following the official announcement of Utah State’s bowl game.
