Utah State volleyball clinches share of MW regular season title with sweep over New Mexico – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State volleyball (20-5, 13-1 MW) clinched at least a share of the Mountain West regular season title after sweeping New Mexico (17-8, 9-5 MW) inside the Wayne Estes Center on Saturday. It is the Aggies’ third-straight championship after sharing the MW regular season title in 2021 and winning the MW tournament in 2022. “That was awesome to get a win,” head coach Rob Neilson said. “That’s a really good defensive team and we put on a show offensively in a lot of ways. This is just a really tough group. A resilient group. We had some players who haven’t played in a while out on the court playing and they did a phenomenal job. It’s really a blessing to have so much depth and so many good players in the gym. I’m really proud of our group.” The Aggies are now one win away from becoming the outright regular season Mountain West champions. USU will have an opportunity to claim the title on Monday, Nov. 6, when Utah State hosts Boise State (11-13, 7-7 MW) at 3:30 p.m., as part of the Mountain West Block Party. “It’s exciting,” senior outside hitter Tatum Stall said. “There’s a big chip

Utah State soccer wins Mountain West championship title match, punches ticket to NCAA tournament – Cache Valley Daily

LARAMIE, Wyoming — Utah State soccer (14-7-1, 9-2 MW) punched its ticket to the NCAA Championships and earned its first-ever Mountain West title with a 1-0 win over Colorado State in the MW Championships title match Saturday afternoon at Madrid Sports Complex. The Aggies will continue what has already been a historic 2023 campaign with the team’s third-ever trip to the NCAA tournament, earning the league’s auto-bid. Four Utah State players earned a spot on the Mountain West All-Tournament team, highlighted by senior midfielder Whitney Lopez, who was named the tournament’s most valuable player after scoring the extra time game-winner against Boise State in the semifinals. Other Aggies to earn all-tournament recognition include graduate goalkeeper Diera Walton, junior defender Addy Symonds-Weichers and sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Richins. In a battle between two of the league’s top defensive sides, it was a 78th minute goal from USU freshman forward Kate Christian that made the difference in the 1-0 victory. This was Christian’s second game-winning goal in just three matches, as she was the lone goal scorer in the team’s regular-season finale victory at Boise State. Utah State turned defense into offense, using a breakaway in transition to create the goal for Christian.

(AP Photo/Stacy Bengs) MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Karl-Anthony Towns scored 15 of his season-high 25 points in a dominant third-quarter stretch, and the Minnesota Timberwolves pulled away to beat the Utah Jazz 123-95 on Saturday night. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 31 points: 19 in the first half and 12 in the fourth quarter. Rudy Gobert had 11 points and a team-best 10 rebounds against his former team for his fourth double-double in the first five games. “There’s things we could do better, obviously, but it’s good to know that we’re at a point right now, five games in, where we got something flowing. Just got to keep building off it,” Towns said. Lauri Markkanen led the Jazz with 22 points and eight rebounds. He was 4 of 11 on 3-pointers after making a franchise-record 25 through the first six Utah games. Talen Horton-Tucker and John Collins added 14 points apiece.
