SALT LAKE CITY – The 4A boys lacrosse championship on Friday, May 25 will be a rematch of last year’s title game, featuring Sky View and Green Canyon. #1 Sky View defeated #5 Judge Memorial 15-10 on Wednesday in the 4A boys lacrosse semifinal at Westminster College. The rematch of a game played on April 24 had nearly the exact same outcome, with Sky View winning 15-11 exactly one month ago.
Sky View has been the top team in 4A all season, suffering only one loss early in the season (7-4 vs 6A Lone Peak on March 11). During these playoffs, Sky View defeated Mountain Crest 21-8 on Saturday and Judge Memorial 15-10 on Wednesday. The Bobcats will play in the 4A title game at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 25 at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.
And that game will be a rematch of the 2022 boys lacrosse championship, featuring Sky View vs Green Canyon. The #6 Wolves defeated #2 Ridgeline in a surprising upset. The two previous contests between Green Canyon and Ridgeline were equally matched, with the Riverhawks winning each game with the same score of 8-7. But on Wednesday afternoon it was the Wolves who got the upper hand and maintained their lead, winning the later semifinal game of the day 17-6.
Both Green Canyon and Ridgeline had graduating seniors who were honored at mid field in a mini graduation ceremony before the game, as both schools had their traditional graduation ceremonies taking place at the USU Spectrum on Wednesday.
Last year Green Canyon defeated Sky View 9-8 in the 4A championship game. Sky View comes into this matchup once again ranked as the top team in the state but Green Canyon is a 6-seed, instead of a 2-seed last year. In their previous two meetings this year, Sky View has defeated Green Canyon 16-7 on March 29 and then a familiar 9-8 on April 21st.
