Green Canyon and Mountain Crest advance to the 4A boys soccer championship – Cache Valley Daily

HERRIMAN – The 4A boys soccer championship on Friday will feature a Region 11 rematch between the Green Canyon Wolves and the Mountain Crest Mustangs. The game will begin at 7 p.m. at America First Field in Sandy, home to Real Salt Lake, and will be broadcast on 107.7 KLZX with an option to listen live here on Cache Valley Daily.

Both teams won their respective matches by two goals in the semifinals Thursday at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, #5 Green Canyon defeating #8 Dixie 2-0 and #6 Mountain Crest defeating the reigning 4A boys soccer champions #2 Crimson Cliffs 3-1.

Green Canyon’s two goals came within a few minutes of each other in the first half. The first came in the 23rd minute by Colby Knight off an assist from Jovani Torres, and four minutes later Brayden Jensen scored after the ball bounced around from a penalty kick and got it past the Dixie goalie.

For Mountain Crest, they had to come from behind after Crimson Cliffs scored within the first 10 minutes of the game. The Mustangs were able to get an equalizer from Dallin Anderson at the 36 minute mark, tying the game with just minutes to go before halftime. And shortly after the break the Mountain Crest Mustangs took the lead after Michael Hale sailed in a penalty kick from nearly 50 yards away. The Crimson Cliffs keeper mishandled the kick and the ball snuck in between his legs. As Crimson Cliffs became more and more desperate as the final seconds came off the clock, Mountain Crest quickly countered and Sam Hunt found the net with only :16 seconds left, giving Mountain Crest a 3-1 advantage to end the game.

Green Canyon and Mountain Crest faced each other twice in the regular season, splitting their series. Green Canyon won the first meeting 4-1 on March 21st with Mountain Crest shutting out the Wolves 2-0 on April 13th.
