SMITHFIELD – Sky View boys basketball wing Carter Davis has been named Cache Valley Media Group Prep Basketball Player of the Week, presented by McDonalds, for the week of Feb. 6-10. Davis is the second Bobcats basketball player to be named CVMG Player of the Week this season, joining Hannah Radford who won the award last week.

In two games this past week, Davis had back-to-back 20-point games, helping the Bobcats secure the Region 11 title in a week where they played the second and third-place teams in the region. On Wednesday against Logan, Davis scored 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting while also accumulating a career-high seven assists. Then on Friday against Ridgeline — the deciding game for the region title — Davis scored a season-high 23 points with five rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Overall for the week, Davis averaged 21.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks while shooting 60.7 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.

Four other players were nominated this week. Emilee Skinner (Ridgeline girls), Gracie Riley (Bear River girls), Jordan Child (Logan boys) and Marissa Best (Green Canyon girls). Skinner also played a part in winning a region title, helping the Riverhawks to the girls Region 11 crown with their 2-0 week during which Skinner averaged 19.5 points. Riley averaged 18.0 points last week where Bear River went 1-1, including a 20-point outing against Mountain Crest. Child scored 22 points in a big comeback by the Grizzlies against Green Canyon. Marissa Best had a career night in Green Canyon’s win over Mountain Crest where she had her first career double-double and setting new career highs in points (23) and rebounds (12).

Candidates for the Player of the Week award were nominated by Cache Valley Media Group staff and then voted on by all high school broadcast crew members, including “Hurricane” John Newbold, Jason Walker, Clint Payne, Dave Simmons, “The Patriot” Nick Zollinger, Jake Ellis, “The Coach” John Olsen, Cade Forest, Terrell Baldwin, Trent Carter, Josh Theurer, Logan Webber and Eric Frandsen. Some stats may be unofficial. Also, thanks to the Cache and Box Elder McDonalds locations for sponsoring the POTW award and supporting local high school sports!
