Utah State rallies from down 11, clutches out win vs SJSU – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – Utah State held the lead for only four minutes and 16 seconds against San Jose State, but that included the moment the second half clock hit zeros and so the Aggies walked off the court with a 75-74 victory and get on its first winning streak since December. To start off the game, Utah State struggled to get rebounds as the Spartans grabbed 10 offensive boards in the first half alone, scoring 16 second-chance points off of those. “Clearly there was a commitment on their player’s part and staff’s part of coming in and imposing their will from a rebounding perspective. And the first half was just not acceptable for us,” USU head coach Ryan Odom said. “We’ve got a very good rebounding team and when you get caught in scrambles like that, and we were caught in scrambles, you are susceptible to offensive rebounding.” Additionally, the Aggies had to deal with hot-shooting from guys that aren’t normally snipers from 3-point range. Alvaro Cardenas and Tibet Gorener at one point were a combined 9-for-10 on 3-point shots, this from a pair of players who have shot a combined 33 percent from deep this year. After tailing by as

How to watch, projected starters, injuries – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – With a rebound win over UNLV under its belt, Utah State has a chance to build its first winning streak in a few weeks. The late time the Aggies had back-to-back wins was their three-game streak from Dec. 25 to Jan 3 (the Washington State, Fresno State and Air Force wins). Since then it’s been back-and-forth between wins and losses (admittedly it’s not been all that long, but it’s still a five-game stretch of back-and-forth). This will be the last home game of the month as USU will travel to California for a two-game road trip against San Diego State and Fresno State. (AP Photo/Rick Bowmer) SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Kyrie Irving scored 48 points, including 21 in the fourth quarter for a second straight night, to lead the Brooklyn Nets to a 117-106 victory over the Utah Jazz on Friday. Brooklyn won for the first time since Kevin Durant’s knee injury behind Irving’s memorable finish. He shot 70% from the field in the fourth quarter and made four 3-pointers. Irving fell two points shy of matching Utah’s fourth-quarter point total. He accounted for 18 of the Nets’ 43 baskets by himself – including a season-high eight 3-pointers. “He’s just in a different world,” Nets center Nic Claxton said. “He’s locked in. He’s in a different type of zone and he makes those big shots time and time again.” Irving also had a season-high 11 rebounds and six assists, leading Brooklyn in both categories. And he also took a couple of early charges. “I put my body on the line and lead by example,” Irving said. “When I can get it
