Lauri Markkanen returns to help Jazz rout Clippers – Cache Valley Daily

(AP Photo/Rick Bowmer) SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Lauri Markkanen had 34 points and 12 rebounds to help the Utah Jazz beat the short-handed Los Angeles Clippers 126-103 on Wednesday night. Markkanen returned after missing two games because of a bruised hip. He made six 3-pointers and had his 11th game with at least 30 points this season. Markkanen made his mark close to the basket and around the perimeter, including a ferocious dunk over Ivica Zubac followed by a 3-pointer to give Utah a 78-62 lead in the third quarter. The Jazz led wire-to-wire and by as many as 25 points over the weary Clippers, on the second game of a back-to-back set, without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. The Jazz (24-24) have won four of their last five games. Mike Conley had 17 points and nine rebounds, Jordan Clarkson scored 16 points and Walker Kessler had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Utah State Athletics announces 2023 Hall of Fame class – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN, Utah – In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Title IX, which unlocked access to educational and athletic opportunities for women, Utah State Athletics announced Wednesday its 2023 Hall of Fame Class that consists of seven former female student-athletes and administrators that paved the way for future Aggies. The induction ceremony for the Hall of Fame’s 20th class is scheduled for 7 p.m., on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall on USU’s campus. More information on the event can be found here. Tickets to attend the ceremony can be purchased here. In addition to the Hall of Fame Event, ‘A Celebration of Women in Sport with Utah State Athletics,’ will be held on Friday, April 14, 2022, at the Riverwoods Conference Center. The gala will take place to honor 50 years of female student-athletes competing at USU. It will feature keynote speakers, live panels and will aim to raise funds for all Aggie female student-athletes. More information on this event will be released soon. Clutch plays give Utah State win over UNLV – Cache Valley Daily

Steven Ashworth. Photo by Sean Greene LOGAN – With 3:55 left on the clock in Utah State’s 75-71 win over UNLV, head coach Ryan Odom called a time out. The Aggies had just given up the lead to the Rebels to go down 66-65 in front of its own crowd. During the huddle, assistant head coach Matt Henry made a simple comment to the players. “We’re gonna win this game,” Henry said as recalled by USU guard Steven Ashworth. And just like the students, who chant “I believe that we will win” prior to the game, Utah State believed in it’s ability to pull off this victory. And to do that, it got contributions from everyone. A handful of minutes after the time out, UNLV still held the lead, 69-68, with just over a minute to play. And with the shot clock winding down the Aggies very much needed a good shot.
