Utah State football announces early signing class – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – Utah State officially totaled 23 players for its early signing recruiting class, bringing in 11 high school recruits, 10 junior college players and two transfers from Division I schools. Aggies head coach Blake Anderson said he feels like the group he brought in is a “solid class” of players, though he acknowledged it’s hard to know this early how good these guys will be. “You don’t really know until you get out on the field and develop them,” Anderson said. “But we felt like the guys that signed with us today fit this place, what we’re looking for on the field, positions of need. High school and veteran players both.” Of course, the early signing period isn’t the last we’ll see of Utah State recruiting before the start of the 2023 season. Attrition through the transfer portal and even injuries will inevitably lead to the Aggies adding more players. Where those guys are added will be dictated by need. “We’re done for today, not done for the class,” Anderson said. “With the landscape of college football and the portal and attrition is ever on-going, we’re going to continue to recruit. Introducing “Light the A,” the newest Utah State-focused sports podcast – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – From the hosts of the Full Court Press comes a new Utah State-centric sports podcast, “Light the A,” named after the victory cry of Aggies everywhere as they call for the “A” on the tower of Old Main to be lit blue. This week marks the launch of said podcast. The launch week will feature five straight days of podcast episode releases. Each episode will feature an interview with either a former/current coach of an Aggies sports team or a former USU athlete. Here is the release schedule and the guests that will be on the show with Jason Walker and Eric Frandsen. Markkanen also matched his career best for points, set Nov. 18 against Phoenix. “Obviously, Lauri had an amazing game for us,” Utah coach Will Hardy said. “He really pushed us into the lead.” Jarred Vanderbilt added 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Jazz, who outscored Detroit 65-51 in the second half. Utah had at least 30 points in all four quarters. “We’re going to score, but we have to take some pride in sitting down and guarding someone,” Pistons coach Dwane Casey said. “If you don’t play with that conviction against Utah, they are going to hit those shots on you.” Jordan Clarkson scored 21 for the Jazz, and Malik Beasley led the second unit with 17 points.
