HYRUM — For the final week of region play, Mountain Crest wide receiver Will DeKorver has been named the Cache Valley Media Group High School Player of the Week.
DeKorver made two huge plays on offense in the first half of the Mustangs’ 41-13 win over Bear River on Friday. First, a 44-yard touchdown reception with eight seconds left in the first quarter and later a 70-yard touchdown catch with 3:30 left in the first half. Both scores helped MC take a lead (6-3 and 14-10). On defense, DeKorver added seven tackles and a pair of pass breakups.
The other two nominees for the week were Sky View placekicker Caleb De Quadros and Ridgeline quarterback Nate Dahle. De Quadros nailed a 40-yard field goal with 2:27 left in the game to give the Bobcats a 3-0 victory over Green Canyon. Dahle was 17-of-35 passing for 178 yards and threw the game-winning touchdown with 5:48 left in the Riverhawks’ 13-10 win over Logan.
Candidates for the Player of the Week award were nominated by Cache Valley Media Group broadcast crews at the respective games this week and then voted on by all high school broadcast crew members, including “Hurricane” John Newbold, Rex Davis, Jason Walker, Josh Anderson, Craig Hislop, John Russell, Clint Payne, JarDee Nessen, Dave Simmons, “The Patriot” Nick Zollinger, Jake Ellis, John Olsen and Eric Frandsen.
