Bobcats’ QB Carson Thatcher awarded Cache Valley Media Group’s High School Player of the Week – Cache Valley Daily

SMITHFIELD – Sky View quarterback Carson Thatcher has been named Cache Valley Media Group’s High School Player of the Week following the third week of Region 11 play.

Thatcher led the Bobcats to a dominant 27-7 road victory against Bear River. The junior signal-caller put up a career night in virtually every way. He completed a career-best 24 passes on a career-high 47 attempts with career-highs in yards (330) and touchdowns (4), throwing one touchdown in each of the four quarters. Sky View has now won two straight games in region play and are in the driver’s seat for a run at the Region 11 crown.

The two other nominees for the week were Mountain Crest senior running back/linebacker Carson Olsen and Ridgeline freshman quarterback Nate Dahle. Olsen ran the ball 14 times for 41 yards and a touchdown to pace the Mustangs’ rushing attack, but also recorded 11 tackles (three solo, eight assisted) with 2.5 tackles for loss in MC’s 38-7 win against Logan. Dahle set career highs in pass attempts (36), completions (28), completion percentage (77.8) and passing yards (291). Dahle also had one touchdown pass in the Riverhawks’ 21-14 victory over Green Canyon.

Candidates for the Player of the Week award were nominated by Cache Valley Media Group broadcast crews at the respective games this week and then voted on by all high school broadcast crew members, including “Hurricane” John Newbold, Rex Davis, Jason Walker, Josh Anderson, Craig Hislop, John Russell, Clint Payne, JarDee Nessen, Dave Simmons, “The Patriot” Nick Zollinger, Jake Ellis, John Olsen and Eric Frandsen. Some stats may be unofficial.
