USU bye week focused on recruiting, revamping coaching, and challenging players – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – Few bye weeks have come at a more opportune time than Utah State’s did for it. Three weeks in and the season is already reaching worst-case scenario levels. Losing to Weber State at home brought this Aggie team to its knees. But a week off allows the team to get up, lick its wounds and figure out just how to chase this season’s still-possible goal of repeating as conference champions. “Coming out of (losing to Weber State), I think reality sets in. This is not going to be easy. I don’t think anybody should have ever expected that it was,” USU head coach Blake Anderson told Eric Frandsen in an interview with the Full Court Press. “We have turned over every possible area of concern that we can. Had some really good practices, some very hardcore, difficult meetings. Really kind of brutal honesty in some areas about where we can fix things. And from that point, all you can do is move forward. Brenner scores, Cincinnati wins 2-1 over Real Salt Lake – Cache Valley Daily

SANDY, Utah (AP) — Brenner’s goals were pivotal for Cincinnati in a 2-1 win against Real Salt Lake on Saturday night. Brenner’s game-winner came in the 76th minute to put Cincinnati (11-8-12) ahead 2-1. Luciano Acosta had an assist on the goal. Brenner scored all of Cincinnati’s goals in the game. Maikel Chang scored the only goal for RSL (11-11-10). RSL outshot Cincinnati 18-8, with eight shots on goal to three for Cincinnati. Roman Celentano saved seven of the eight shots he faced for Cincinnati. Zac MacMath saved one of the three shots he faced for RSL. Pair of Region 11 teams on top of volleyball and girls soccer RPI standings; three teams drop in latest football rankings – Cache Valley Daily

SMITHFIELD – A pair of Region 11 teams in both girls soccer and volleyball remain on top of the latest 4A RPI rankings. Sky View and Green Canyon remain at their similar positions in volleyball, ranked 1st and 2nd respectively with the Bobcats remaining the lone undefeated team in all of 4A with a 13-0 record. There was no movement among any Region 11 volleyball teams in this week’s RPI standings. A pair of Region 11 teams remain on top of the 4A girls soccer standings, but who they are is different from a week ago. Green Canyon was the 2nd ranked team behind Mountain Crest last week but the Wolves suffered losses against Sky View (2-1) and then Mountain Crest (3-0), dropping them two spots in the latest RPI rankings. In their place, the Ridgeline Riverhawks moved up one spot to join the Mustangs atop the 4A rankings. In football, every Region 11 team now has a 1-1 region record and the latest RPI rankings reflect movement from everyone except Mountain Crest, who remains at the same spot they were ranked a week ago.
