Horvath and Bean lead Aggies past Spartans, 78-62 – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN, Utah — Forwards Brandon Horvath and Justin Bean led the way as Utah State rolled against San Jose State, 78 to 62. The Aggies collected their fourth win in a row, each by at least 16 points, evening up their conference record at .500. Horvath and Bean both collected double-doubles in the contest. Horvath looked like he would get a triple-double at halftime, but slowed down in the assists column as he racked up an extra nine points himself. The Spectrum crowd had reason to cheer with two highlight Horvath dunks. On one play, Horvath stole the ball, dribbled the length of the court, swung the ball around his body and slammed home a two-handed jam. Later, guard Max Shulga sent a pass from mid-court to the wide-open Horvath who dunked the ball with authority. “I had a close-up view of that dunk behind the back. I wanted him to throw it off the backboard to me, but with that kind of a highlight, you can’t argue with that. It was pretty awesome. I love playing with Brandon. It was pretty cool to have double-doubles, both of us,” Bean said. Horvath collected his second double-double of the season, finishing

USU hosting hot-shooting San Jose State in make-up game Thursday – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State (13-9, 4-5) continues a busy stretch – playing their third game in six days – by hosting San Jose State (7-13, 0-8). This game was originally scheduled for New Year’s Day but due to COVID-19 issues in the Spartans’ program, the game was postponed until now. “I like their team. You watch them on film, in the non-conference they’ve had some really nice wins against some quality opponents. The Mountain West has been a little bit unforgiving so far,” head coach Ryan Odom said. The Spartans have struggled lately. They are on an eight-game losing streak and have been outscored by 16 or more in their last two games. Despite the mismatch on paper, Odom and his team are taking the challenge seriously. “They’re playing better than their results are showing right now,” Odom said. “I told the team today in film, ‘what’s our record in conference? We’re four and five.’ We have a losing record in conference and this is another opportunity to change that.” Odom preaches a consistent, focused mentality for his team. To them, it does not matter who they are playing, they are going to have the same attitude. “If you

Jazz complete season sweep over Denver, 108-104 – Cache Valley Daily

Utah Jazz guard Trent Forrest (3) dunks as Denver Nuggets guard Bones Hyland watches during the second half of an NBA basketball game Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, in Salt Lake City. (AP Photo/Rick Bowmer) SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Trent Forrest had career highs of 18 points and eight assists to lead the Utah Jazz to a 108-104 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night. Mike Conley scored 17 points for Utah. Rudy Gay, Royce O’Neale, and Bojan Bogdanovic scored 15 points apiece as six Jazz players scored in double figures. Utah won for just the third time in 14 games. The Jazz swept the season series with the Nuggets, 4-0. “Everybody played well. We needed it. Everybody played with energy,” Forrest said. “More happy that we won, rather than how I played.” Bryn Forbes had four 3-pointers and scored 26 points to lead Denver. Monte Morris added 15 points, Will Barton scored 14 and Davon Reed 13 for the Nuggets. Utah outscored Denver 64-42 in the paint. The Jazz also finished with 20 points off 14 turnovers by the Nuggets. “Those are the plays that are the most exciting for our team,” Conley said. “It wasn’t the dunks.
