No. 11 Utah State gymnastics beats Air Force 194.950-191.975 in home opener – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State’s 11th-ranked gymnastics team opened the home portion of its schedule with a 194.950-191.975 victory over Air Force in front of 1,434 fans on Friday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. After just two meets, the Aggies (3-1) are off to their best start yet under fifth-year head coach Amy Smith. This is also Utah State’s best start to a season since opening the 2017 campaign at 4-1. “We’re going to be a great team,” Smith said. “We’re still trying to figure stuff out. We got thrown a little curveball very quickly and unexpectedly with the COVID protocols, but we did our best in managing that. Like I said, we are going to be great, we just have to get some lineup things figured out. I am just excited that we closed the meet off strong like we did.” The Aggies enjoyed a strong night with seven gymnasts setting career highs and tying one personal best. Utah State won all four events, while Genevieve Sabado won the all-around for Air Force (0-1) with a 38.475. Utah State did not compete an all-arounder as junior Rebecca Wells was out due to COVID protocols, as was junior floor

Axel Kei. Image from Real Salt Lake HERRIMAN, Utah (AP) — Real Salt Lake has signed 14-year-old forward Axel Kei, the youngest player ever to sign with a Major League Soccer senior team. Kei, a lanky 6-foot-4 product of the RSL Academy, inked a two-year deal at 14 years and 15 days, the club announced Friday. “Over the last year Axel has proven to be one of the top attacking prospects in the country. His propensity in front of goal is well beyond his years, and coupled with his elite athleticism, he projects to become a goal-scoring force in our league in the years to come,” Real Salt Lake general manager Elliot Fall said in a statement. Previously, the youngest player to sign with an MLS club was Freddy Adu, who was 153 days older than Kei when he joined D.C. United in 2004. Kei, an Ivory Coast native who grew up in Brazil before his family relocated to the United States in 2017, became the youngest-ever professional athlete for a U.S. team when he played for the lower-division Real Monarchs last year at 13 years, 8 months and 9 days old. Kei was also a part of the RSL

USU returns home to host Cowboys – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN, Utah – Tonight, Aggie Men’s basketball returns to the Spectrum for the first time in 25 days. Utah State (10-6, 1-2) hosts Wyoming (11-2, 0-0) in the Cowboys’ first conference game of the season. “A really good basketball team. Obviously off to a great start this season. Coach (Jeff) Linder has them playing really good basketball,” head coach Ryan Odom said. The Pokes will visit the Aggies for their first game since Christmas day following four postponements due to COVID-19 issues with opponents and within the Wyoming program. Coach Odom said COVID-19 pauses can affect teams in different ways. “If you look at Boise [State, a break] didn’t affect them too bad. They were off for over a week,” Odom said. “It’s gone both ways… It can certainly be helpful from a rest standpoint… Or it can go the other way too, we’ve seen it both ways. Where your timing is off, you’re not ready.” Wyoming is led by forward Graham Ike. He has started for the Cowboys every game this season and dropped a career-high 35 points on Denver last month. Ike has recorded five double-doubles this year and excels at getting to the line. He leads the
