Utah State student-athletes lead Mountain West with 93 percent graduation success rate – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State’s Graduation Success Rate (GSR) stands at 93 percent for its student-athletes, it was announced by the NCAA national office Wednesday, a mark that leads the Mountain West. “Our belief is that the greatest victory each of our student-athletes can experience is walking across the stage to get their diploma,” said USU Vice President and Director of Athletics John Hartwell. “These numbers validate our commitment to academics and preparing our student-athletes for life after college, and we applaud their efforts to achieve academic excellence. We also appreciate the emphasis that our coaches and dedicated student-athlete services staff facilitate with the academic success of our student-athletes. Utah State had the best or tied for the best GSR in the Mountain West in seven sports with golf (100), soccer (100), men’s tennis (100), women’s tennis (100), volleyball (100), women’s cross country/track & field (97) and football (89). USU’s men’s tennis program has now had a perfect GSR for 14 consecutive years, while USU’s golf and soccer programs have now hit that mark in each of the last five years. Continuing Utah State’s scores, gymnastics (93), softball (92), men’s basketball (82) and women’s basketball (78) also excelled within the framework.

Aggies prepared for ‘good test’ from St. Mary’s Gaels – Cache Valley Daily

Photo by Clint Allen LOGAN, Utah – The Aggies (6-1) are heading into the toughest stretch of their non-conference schedule this month as they attempt to build a strong resume for the NCAA tournament. Their first challengers in December are the Saint Mary’s Gaels (7-1) out of the West Coast Conference. “Really excited about the opportunity to compete against them. They’re a really good team, expected to do great things this season so it’ll be a good test,” head coach Ryan Odom said. Look for the game to be determined on the Aggies’ offensive possessions. The Gaels play formidable defense, ranking 23rd in the nation in points allowed per game. “Defensively, they’re tremendous. I think they are the top team in the country in terms of keeping teams from getting assists,” Odom said. “Obviously, that’s something we’re pretty good at or have been so far this season. So, something’s probably gotta give or maybe we’ll be middle of the road.” The Aggies are third in the nation in assists per game and fifth in total assists. Coach Odom said Utah State will keep their

Underdog Aggies one win away from first Mountain West football championship – Cache Valley Daily

Utah State wide receiver Derek Wright is congratulated by coach Blake Anderson after scoring a touchdown against New Mexico during the first half of an NCAA college football game on Friday, Nov. 26, 2021, in Albuquerque, N.M. (AP Photo/Andres Leighton) LOGAN—After three months and 96 games of Mountain West Conference football, the dust has finally settled. The lone contenders remaining—Utah State and No. 19 San Diego State—will compete for the championship this Saturday at 1 p.m. MT in Carson, California. Head coach Blake Anderson said he wants to make the most of this opportunity. That, of course, means bringing home the first Mountain West championship trophy in program history. “We don’t want to be satisfied with being there,” he said. “We want to find a way to win it.” Almost everything was up in the air less than a week ago. Boise State and Air Force still had hopes at a Mountain Division title, and Fresno State still had a chance at representing the West Division, but when both the Aggies and Aztecs won, it finalized the pairing. Few expected USU to be in this situation. Certainly not the Las Vegas oddsmakers, who put the over/under mark at 3.5 wins.
