Championship game berth in question as Aggies drop home finale in Logan – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN—Utah State entered Saturday night’s game at the top of the conference standings while Wyoming was looking for just its second conference win, but it was the Cowboys who left town with the 44-17 victory, bowl eligible and the Bridger Rifle rivalry trophy. Behind 604 yards of total offense, Wyoming improved to 6-5 overall and 2-5 in conference. Utah State fell to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in conference. Aggie head coach Blake Anderson said he was worried all week about matching up with Wyoming’s style of play and size, and it proved to be a major issue. “We made way too many mistakes to stay in the game,” he said. “And honestly, just got shoved around.” The loss put the Aggies in a much more unfavorable position in the conference race. Utah State no longer controls its own destiny in the Mountain West race. If USU is to reach the championship game, it will be because San Diego State beats Boise State at home and USU wins in Albuquerque next Saturday. Anderson said that looking at the game will hurt, and that he and his team will need to get over it fast. “We’ve got to recoup, refresh these guys

Utah State volleyball outlasts Wyoming in five sets, wins regular season MW championship – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN, Utah — On Senior Day and with a Mountain West regular season championship on the line, Utah State volleyball met the challenge, rallying to defeat Wyoming in an epic five-set match. The Aggies earned the program’s first regular season conference title since finishing atop the WAC standings in 2012, and the seventh title in Utah State history. “It’s indescribable,” senior Corinne Larsen said. “Had you come to me three years ago and said, ‘You’re going to be MW champs your senior year,’” I would’ve laughed. Where we were at as a team, what we’ve gone through and what we’ve climbed through is unbelievable, and I never would’ve guessed in the whole world it would happen. But, I had no doubt this season. As I saw this team play and work together, there was no doubt in my mind that we would come out on top.” Doubts could have been excused following the first set, however, as the teams exchanged runs throughout the set, meeting at a dead heat at 24-apiece. A Cowgirl kill and service ace gave the first set to the visitors. “I think we exerted a lot on Thursday,” Larsen said. “So, we took a little deep breath,

Utah State women’s basketball loses, 69-66, to Loyola Marymount – Cache Valley Daily

USU vs Loyola Marymount women’s basketball. 11/19/21. Photo by Rick Parker LOGAN, Utah — Utah State women’s basketball came back from a 15-point halftime deficit but was unable to escape with the victory in a 69-66 loss to Loyola Marymount on Friday night. “I think we just dug too big of a hole,” head coach Kayla Ard said. “We’ve gotten lucky a couple times this year in digging a hole and being able to dig out of it, and we did dig out of it tonight. But by that time, we’d exhausted all of our energy to do that that we couldn’t finish the game.” LMU struck quickly to build an 8-2 lead through the first minute of play, briefly extending the lead to double digits in the first quarter. Utah State trimmed the lead back down to three points at 23-20 via a 9-2 run bridging the first and second quarters. The Lions countered with a 14-4 run to again stretch the lead into double digits. LMU entered halftime with a 43-28 cushion. In the second half, the Aggies again stormed back from a double-digit deficit, starting the quarter on a 20-5 run to tie the game at 48.
