BOISE, Idaho – Utah State senior Kami Warner, appearing in her USU-record 88th career match, equalized the contest at 1-1 in the 90th minute to force overtime in the semifinals of the Mountain West Championships. However, New Mexico was able to score a second goal in transition in the second overtime period to give the Aggies a 2-1 double-overtime loss and ending one of the best seasons in USU soccer history. USU finished with 16 shots, including seven on goal, while the Lobos finished the match with 19 shots, with six on goal. UNM’s only goals came in transition as the Utah State defense held the Lobos in check during the run of play. Following a scoreless opening overtime period, UNM built on a counterattack in the 102nd minute and scored to advance to the championship match on Saturday afternoon. Portland Timbers midfielder Sebastian Blanco (10) celebrates a goal against Real Salt Lake during an MLS soccer match Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021, in Sandy, Utah. (Scott G Winterton/Deseret News via AP) SANDY, Utah (AP) — Sebastian Blanco scored two goals and the Portland Timbers beat Real Salt Lake 3-1 on Wednesday night to clinch home field for the first round of the playoffs. Blanco put in a header in the 17th minute and scored on a give-and-go with Jaroslaw Niezgoda to finish a counter attack just before halftime. In between, Blanco centered the ball with pace that went off Aaron Herrera for an own goal. With the season ending Sunday, Portland (16-13-4) is locked into the fourth seed in the Western Conference. Salt Lake (13-14-6) could have clinched a playoff spot, but only managed a penalty-kick goal by Albert Rusnak, his career-high 11th, in the closing minutes. Clarkson scores 30, Mitchell-less Jazz rout Hawks 116-98 – Cache Valley Daily

Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson (00) gestures after a Utah three-point basket in the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Atlanta Hawks, Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, in Atlanta. (AP Photo/John Bazemore) ATLANTA (AP) — Jordan Clarkson was coming off one of his worst games. His teammates told him to keep shooting. That confidence sure paid off on a night when the Utah Jazz didn’t have their leading scorer. Clarkson scored 30 points and the Jazz blew away the Atlanta Hawks in the fourth quarter for a 116-98 victory Thursday night despite the absence of Donovan Mitchell. “Everybody just coming up to me and saying, ‘J.C., keep shooting, keep shooting. It’s gonna happen,’” Clarkson said. “That’s why I love this team. I love my teammates, I love the coaching staff, I love this organization. They believe in me and believe in what I can do. It’s beautiful.” Mitchell did not dress because of a sprained right ankle, but last season’s NBA Sixth Man of the Year winner got hot at just the right time to give the Jazz their eighth victory in nine games. It was tight through the first three quarters, with the Jazz heading to the
