Utah State men’s basketball to face Richmond in 2021 Veterans Classic – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men’s basketball has added another non-conference game to its schedule as the Aggies were announced as one of four teams in the field of the 2021 Veterans Classic, hosted by the United States Naval Academy, on Friday, Nov. 12. USU is slated to face Richmond at 6 p.m. (ET) and will be followed by Navy vs. Virginia Tech in the nightcap at 8:30 p.m. (ET). “We are thrilled to be invited to compete in the Veterans Classic,” USU head coach Ryan Odom said. “It’s an honor to visit Navy and it will be an incredible experience for our players, coaches and Aggie supporters.” The game against the Spiders will mark the first time the teams have faced each other on the hardwood. Last season, Richmond finished the year with an overall mark of 14-9 and advanced to the second round of the NIT. In addition to action on the court, participating teams will immerse themselves in the inner workings of the U.S. Naval Academy through guided tours held on the day before the games. Nine-time Utah State All-American Dillon Maggard to compete in 10K Olympic trials – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN, Utah – Dillon Maggard, who just completed his second season as a volunteer assistant coach with Utah State’s track & field and cross country programs, will be competing at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Ore., on Friday, June 18. Maggard is arguably the best distance runner in Utah State history as he ended his illustrious career (2014-18) as a nine-time All-American, matching the school record previously set by James Parker, who represented the United States in the hammer at the 2004 Olympic Summer Games and 2005 World Championships. The native of Kirkland, Wash., will be one of 25 competitors competing in the 10,000-meter run on Friday at approximately 8:20 p.m. (MT). The event will be broadcast live on NBCSN. The top three finishers in each event at the U.S. Olympic Trials will advance to the Olympic Games, if they have met the Olympic qualifying standard in that event during the qualifying period. If there are places unfilled in an event following the Olympic Trials, an athlete could still qualify based on their position in the World Athletics Rankings. Marcus Morris scored 25 points and Reggie Jackson added 22 for the Clippers. Los Angeles won its third straight game to push the top-seeded Jazz to the brink of elimination. The Clippers shot 51% from the field without Kawhi Leonard in the lineup. Bojan Bogandovic scored 32 points – while making nine 3-pointers – to lead Utah. Donovan Mitchell added 21 points.
